Hello Everyone,
I promised a picture of Tom, when he played Robin Hood in the school play...here he is!
This is Oscar. He is one of my son Tom's close friends.
Tom and Oscar were born within a day of each other and have grown up together. Last year, just after his 8th birthday we found out that Oscar had a Medulloblastoma, a type of brain tumour. He had 11 hours of surgery to remove the tumour, followed by lots and lots of chemo. Throughout the year of his treatment, he spent many hours raising money for the Candlelighters Charity.
The boys were 9yrs old in February and the week after the school play Oscar relapsed. An MRI scan showed that the cancer is back, the cancer cells are all over his brain and spine.
There is no known cure for this relapse and for now the disease is being controlled until a different treatment plan can be found. There are a number of promising research and clinical trials starting up which could give Oscar the chance he needs to live a full life. However these trials are not in the UK, and hundreds of thousands of pounds now need to be raised in a relatively short space of time, in order to send Oscar abroad to be able to participate in these trials.
I don't think that our crafty blogs are the right place to ask for money. I would ask, however, that if you know of any companies or businesses that donate to things like this, then please pass on the link to Oscar's site, you can find it here.
Please say a prayer for him. He needs all the help he can get now.
Edited : We've just heard that Manchester United Football Club have 'tweeted' about Oscar's fighting fund - Oscar was a Mascot at one of their games last year. There's some fantastic support out there.
Thank you
Lorraine x

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear about Oscar. How awful to go through all that treatment and at such a young age.
I hope and pray that the money can be raised for him to be able to take part in the medical trials.

Oh how terribly terribly awful for Oscar, his family and friends. I really hope that enough funds are raised to enable him to get on the trials he desperately needs. Susan xx
Oh How sad. What a terrible thing cancer is. My heart goes out to him and his family and friends and hope he raises enough money for the trials.

Hello Lorraine, I am so sorry to hear that Oscar has relapsed, just so awful for him, family and friends. I do hope that he finds the money needed for his treatment. Well done MU, I've no time for football, but in this they can't be faulted. I will keep him in my thoughts, your son too, must hurt to see his friend so ill, warm hugs Kate x
Wonderful photo

Tom looks a right little trouper, he looks like he enjoyed it.

I do hope the new treatments will get this under control for him. A child should never have to go through such a traumatic ordeal... never!
How awful. Poor Oscar. Praying for him xx
